🇬🇭 Two Young Ghanaians Secure Bank of Canada License for Fintech Giant WeWire

In a groundbreaking achievement for African innovation, two young Ghanaian entrepreneurs, **Ebenezer Ghanney** and **Desmond Nyamador**, have obtained a **Bank of Canada license** for their fast-growing fintech enterprise, **WeWire**. The milestone positions WeWire as one of the first African-founded companies to acquire authorization within Canada’s highly regulated banking and financial ecosystem — a move promising to bridge financial services between Africa and North America.

WeWire, co-led by Ghanney and Nyamador, has been building momentum across Africa through its digital payment and money transfer solutions designed to support cross-border trade, remittances, and inclusive financial access for underserved populations. With its new licensing in Canada, the company can now directly facilitate transactions within the North American market, enabling smoother access for African diaspora communities looking to send funds back home securely and efficiently.

According to industry observers, this development signals a wider shift in the global fintech landscape, where African innovators are gaining recognition for pioneering digital financial models that merge local insight with global regulatory compliance. The duo’s success highlights the potential of African-led technology startups to expand beyond regional boundaries and shape global payment ecosystems.

Ebenezer Ghanney and Desmond Nyamador both represent a new generation of Ghanaian entrepreneurs defining the future of fintech through creativity, resilience, and a strong commitment to financial inclusion. Their vision with WeWire aligns with Ghana’s broader ambition to become a continental hub for digital finance and innovation.

With the newly acquired Bank of Canada license, WeWire will operate at the intersection of African and Western financial systems — creating pathways for innovation, remittance efficiency, and sustainable fintech collaboration between the two continents.
