On October 17, a Lebanese court ordered the release of Hannibal Gaddafi, son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, after ten years of imprisonment without trial or investigation. Gaddafi’s son was released on bail of 11 million dollars with a travel ban imposed.
It should be recalled that Lebanese investigative authorities accused Gaddafi’s son of “concealing information about the fate of Imam Musa al-Sadr and his two associates, Sheikh Muhammad Yaqub and journalist Abbas Badr al-Din, who disappeared without a trace in the Libyan capital Tripoli in 1978, after arriving there at the invitation of Muammar Gaddafi.”
The case of Gaddafi’s son had not yet been resolved in court, despite attempts by several Libyan parties to intervene to secure his release.
During the investigation, Gaddafi’s son insisted on his innocence in the case of Musa al-Sadr’s disappearance, as the incident occurred when he was a two-year-old child, indicating that the disappearance might be known by his older brother Saif al-Islam Gaddafi and former Foreign Minister Musa Kusa.
