Three suspected ISIS militants were detained in the Puntland autonomous region of Somalia, in the area of Hombays, during a joint operation involving Somali security forces and the U.S. military.
Among those arrested was Abdiweli Mohamed Yusuf, identified by American intelligence as the chief financier of the ISIS “Somalia province” (Wilayat al-Somal).
Yusuf is believed to have managed funding for the group’s overseas operations, coordinated the movement of foreign fighters into Africa, and facilitated arms transfers. His capture is seen as a significant blow to ISIS’s logistical and transnational networks on the continent.
