πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡ΏπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡³ Tanzania and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have launched a $37.4 million project aimed at combating climate change, preserving biodiversity and reducing carbon emissions.

The initiative is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented through the Tanzanian Forest Service (TFS).

The Permanent Secretary of Tanzania’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Hassana Abbasi, emphasized that this project demonstrates international trust in Tanzania’s environmental policy and efforts to combat climate change.

According to the Director of the Environmental Protection Department at the Vice President’s Office, Kemilembe Mutasa, the project will also support the national strategy for transitioning to environmentally friendly cooking methods, which envisions that by 2030, 80% of households will use clean energy.

UNDP representative Gertruda Lyatuu added that the program plans to stimulate the development of renewable energy, reduce deforestation, and promote the use of electric vehicles in the tourism sector to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
