LANGER HEINRICH
THE STRATEGIC VALUE OF AFRICAN URANIUM

Namibia’s Langer Heinrich uranium mine remains an important
asset in the global nuclear fuel supply chain. Its September
2026 quarterly performance demonstrates the relationship
between planned maintenance, ore characteristics, processing
efficiency and international uranium prices.

Paladin Energy reported approximately one million pounds of
uranium oxide production, while sales reached 1.16 million
pounds at an average realised price of US$79.40 per pound.

THE CENTRAL STORY

Lower quarterly production did not prevent Paladin from
achieving a higher realised uranium sales price. The company
maintained its FY2027 production guidance, anticipating
improved performance in the second half of the financial year.

02 / PRODUCTION AND SALES COMPARISON

The September quarter recorded lower production and sales
volumes compared with the preceding June quarter.
Realised selling prices increased, while reported production
costs also rose.

MARKET INTERPRETATION

The realised price is the average amount received by Paladin
for uranium delivered under its sales arrangements. It is not
the same as the daily uranium spot-market quotation.

03 / THE CHEMISTRY OF URANIUM

Understanding the chemistry of uranium helps explain why
Langer Heinrich is strategically important. Uranium is a
naturally occurring radioactive element with the chemical
symbol U and atomic number 92.

U3O8

Triuranium Octoxide

The uranium oxide product reported in Paladin’s
production and sales figures. Commonly associated
with commercial uranium concentrate, often called
yellowcake.

UO2

Uranium Dioxide

A major uranium compound used in the manufacture
of conventional nuclear reactor fuel pellets.

UF6

Uranium Hexafluoride

A compound used in certain uranium conversion
and enrichment processes in the nuclear fuel cycle.

U

Uranium

Chemical element, atomic number 92.
Its isotopes include uranium-235 and uranium-238.

IMPORTANT DISTINCTION

Paladin’s reported mine product is U3O8.
UO2 and UF6 are examples of downstream
uranium compounds in the wider nuclear fuel cycle.
They should not be interpreted as products manufactured
at Langer Heinrich.

The nuclear fuel cycle

01. Mining

Uranium-bearing ore is extracted from the deposit.

02. Processing

Ore is processed to produce uranium concentrate, commonly represented by U3O8.

03. Conversion

At specialist downstream facilities, uranium compounds may be converted into forms such as UF6.

04. Fuel fabrication

Uranium fuel is manufactured, including UO2 ceramic pellets for conventional reactors.

04 / LANGER HEINRICH: THE NAMIBIAN ASSET

Located in Namibia’s Erongo Region, Langer Heinrich lies
approximately 80 kilometres east of Swakopmund and
85 kilometres northeast of Walvis Bay.

ERONGO REGION
NAMIBIA’S URANIUM LANDSCAPE

Its position connects Namibia’s mining industry with
established export infrastructure and international
nuclear fuel markets.

05 / INSIDE THE MINING OPERATION

The September quarter was affected by scheduled processing
plant maintenance and the transition into the southern
benches of the J Pit.

7.73M tonnes

Total material mined during the quarter.

1.84M tonnes

Ore mined.

1.17M tonnes

Processing throughput.

85%

Average plant recovery rate, compared with 90% in the previous quarter.

The company expects improvements in feed grade and
metallurgical recovery as mining progresses through
the southern sections of the pit.

UNDRAWN CREDIT FACILITY

Paladin maintained its FY2027 operating guidance despite
the weaker September-quarter production figure.
The company anticipates stronger production in the second
half of the financial year as ore characteristics and
processing performance improve.

07 / WHO BENEFITS FROM AFRICA’S URANIUM?

The strategic importance of Langer Heinrich extends
beyond the production of uranium concentrate.
It raises important questions about mineral ownership,
foreign investment and the distribution of economic value.

LOCAL EMPLOYMENT

How many skilled Namibian workers participate in mining and technical operations?

LOCAL PROCUREMENT

What proportion of operating expenditure reaches Namibian suppliers and businesses?

PUBLIC REVENUE

How much tax, royalty and other government revenue is generated?

INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT

Can local companies participate in engineering, processing and mining supply chains?

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

Are water management, tailings, radiation protection and rehabilitation obligations properly monitored?

TECHNICAL EDUCATION

Can Namibia expand its domestic expertise in geology, metallurgy and nuclear science?

PAN-AFRICAN ECONOMIC PERSPECTIVE

Foreign investment can provide capital, technology and
market access. The long-term national objective should be
to translate mineral production into skilled employment,
local enterprise, public revenue and durable industrial
capability.

08 / CONCLUSION: AFRICA’S ENERGY FUTURE

Paladin Energy’s September 2026 operating results demonstrate
the complex relationship between mining schedules,
processing performance and international uranium markets.

The planned maintenance shutdown and mining transition
reduced production, while higher realised uranium prices
supported stronger sales economics.

For Namibia, the larger opportunity is to strengthen its
position as a strategic uranium supplier while increasing
domestic participation in the economic benefits of mining.

As global nuclear power markets evolve, Langer Heinrich
will remain an important case study in African resource
development, international investment and energy security.

THE PAN-AFRICAN QUESTION

Africa possesses strategic mineral resources. The challenge
is to convert that geological advantage into technological
capacity, industrial development and economic sovereignty.
