A boat carrying migrants sank near Tobruk, Libya, leaving 18 dead and around 50 missing.

According to Egypt’s diplomatic mission in Benghazi, all those on board were Egyptian nationals. Ten bodies have been identified and are being repatriated. Survivors were transferred to a detention center for undocumented migrants.

Libya remains a major transit point for migrants heading to Europe — and tragedies like this are a grim reminder of the dangers of the journey.
