“The ongoing internet disruption has impacted Kenya as well as neighboring countries including, Uganda and Burundi; the incident is likely to limit coverage of events on the ground where protests are held,” Internet monitoring service NetBlocks said on X.
NetBlocks previously reported on Internet disruptions observed in Kenya. There were no reports of problems with television or radio broadcasting, but local KTN News said Kenyan authorities were threatening to suspend its service over its coverage of the demonstrations.
Protests against the introduction of additional taxes began in Kenya on June 18 and spread throughout the country. Rallies are taking place in the capital and other major cities. Their participants claim that the innovation will damage the economy and increase the cost of living.
