President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo’s appointment of Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua as prime minister comes nearly three weeks after the resignation of the previous government, which the leader deemed “ineffective.”
The previous prime minister, Manuela Roka Botey, the first woman to hold the position, submitted her resignation in July at the president’s request, just 18 months after her appointment. Mbasogo attributed the resignation to the government’s inability to address critical issues like the economy, social cohesion, and corruption.
The newly appointed prime minister previously served as the director of the national bank of Equatorial Guinea since 2012. He has been tasked with “administrative coordination” of the country.
