Kampala, Uganda — Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has once again found himself at the center of public attention after posting a series of unusual messages on social media involving global music superstar Beyoncé and her husband, rapper and businessman Jay-Z.

In the now-deleted posts, General Kainerugaba referred to Beyoncé as his “wife,” challenged Jay-Z to a fight, and even suggested that he would take the matter to the United Nations. The remarks quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing widespread reactions ranging from amusement to criticism before the posts were removed.

The latest episode adds to a long list of controversial online statements by the Ugandan military chief, whose social media activity has repeatedly generated headlines both within Africa and internationally.

Over the years, General Kainerugaba has made several unexpected public declarations involving high-profile personalities. He has previously posted multiple messages expressing admiration for Beyoncé, publicly proposed marriage to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and made provocative comments about neighboring Kenya that prompted diplomatic concern and official responses.

His online remarks have often placed the Ugandan government in an uncomfortable position. On several occasions, government officials have sought to distance the state from his personal opinions, emphasizing that his social media posts do not represent Uganda’s official foreign policy or government position.

General Kainerugaba is the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and remains one of the country’s most influential military figures. His outspoken presence on social media continues to attract significant public interest, with supporters describing his posts as humorous or unconventional, while critics argue that such statements are inappropriate for a serving military commander and risk undermining Uganda’s diplomatic image.

The latest comments involving Beyoncé and Jay-Z have once again fueled debate about the responsibilities of senior public officials in the digital age, particularly those occupying sensitive military positions. While neither Beyoncé nor Jay-Z has publicly responded to the remarks, the incident has generated widespread discussion across African and international media.

As social media increasingly shapes political communication, General Kainerugaba’s online activity continues to blur the line between personal expression and public office, ensuring that his posts remain closely watched both at home and abroad.
