Ada, Greater Accra Region, Ghana — The Ghana Navy has intercepted a canoe carrying 59 sacks of suspected marijuana during an intelligence-led anti-narcotics operation at the Ada Estuary, dealing another significant blow to illegal drug trafficking along Ghana’s coastline. According to security officials, the operation was carried out by personnel of the Ghana Navy’s Riverine Command following intelligence that suspected traffickers were attempting to transport the illicit cargo through the estuary. The intercepted canoe was found loaded with 59 sacks believed to contain marijuana, commonly referred to as Indian hemp. (X (formerly Twitter))

The successful operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies to strengthen surveillance across the country’s maritime domain and combat transnational organized crime, including narcotics trafficking. The suspected drugs have been handed over to the appropriate investigative authorities for further examination and legal action. (X (formerly Twitter))

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining security along Ghana’s waterways and urged the public to provide credible information that could assist in disrupting criminal networks involved in drug smuggling and other illicit activities. The latest seizure highlights the strategic importance of the Ada Estuary as security agencies continue to monitor the area against illegal maritime activities. (X (formerly Twitter))
