🇨🇳🇲🇱 Chinese Armored Vehicles Arrive in Mali

A large column of military equipment arrived in Bamako, September 4 in the evening from Conakry, including Chinese-made VP14 MRAPs and VN22 (B) armored vehicles.

At least 110 VP14 MRAPs and 30 VN22 (B) units were counted, along with dozens of container trucks carrying weapons, ammunition, boats, and other equipment.

The scale of the delivery significantly strengthens the capabilities of the Malian army, giving it resources for mobile operations against JNIM and greater control over the southern regions, where militant activity has been rising.

The choice of vehicles reflects tactical priorities:
• The VP14 MRAP is a lighter vehicle designed to withstand mines and ambushes, making it suitable for patrols and convoys where IEDs are the main threat.
• The VN22 (B) is a heavier infantry fighting vehicle equipped with a cannon and anti-tank missiles, providing offensive and fire support for infantry operations.

Together with similar deliveries to Burkina Faso, the shipments highlight Beijing’s growing interest in the Sahel and the scale of Chinese influence in the region.
