🇺🇸 Rick Ross Arrested in Miami Beach on Domestic Violence Charges; Bond Figures Differ in Public Records

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — October 1, 2026 — Rapper Rick Ross, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, was arrested Thursday in Miami Beach after a woman reported an alleged domestic violence incident at his Star Island residence dating to August 28.

Ross, 50, surrendered to Miami Beach police early Thursday and was subsequently booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 6:10 a.m., according to Miami-Dade jail records and local reporting. He faces one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanor count of battery. Both charges are classified as domestic-violence-related offenses.

The arrest stems from an incident the alleged victim told police occurred on the morning of August 28, 2026, at Ross’ home on Star Island. According to the arrest affidavit reported by CBS News Miami and other outlets, the woman said she had been in a relationship with Ross for approximately a year and that the two had been living together at the time.

Alleged August 28 confrontation

According to the arrest affidavit, the woman told investigators she was awakened by Ross at approximately 7:44 a.m. on August 28. She alleged that Ross was angry after seeing that she had been tagged in an Instagram photograph.

The woman told police that Ross questioned her about whether she had been truthful with him and allegedly slapped her in the face. She further alleged that the confrontation continued later that morning, including in a bathroom, where she said Ross accused her of being involved with another person.

According to the affidavit, she told investigators that Ross struck her multiple times, including several times in the chest. She also alleged that he restricted her breathing by grabbing and twisting the collar of the hoodie she was wearing.

The affidavit further alleges that Ross grabbed the woman’s ponytail and slammed her against a wall before striking her in the face, causing a split or busted lip. The woman also told investigators that she was pushed to the floor and that Ross turned on a shower and attempted to spray her with the showerhead.

She eventually left the residence, according to the account documented in the arrest affidavit.

Police said the woman later provided investigators with a sworn statement and timestamped photographs that she said documented her injuries. Investigators also reviewed surveillance footage from the property, according to CBS News Miami.

Police report filed September 29

Although the alleged incident occurred on August 28, the woman reported it to Miami Beach police on September 29, approximately one month later.

That timing has become a central part of Ross’ defense.

According to the arrest affidavit, Ross did not provide investigators with a statement about the alleged assault when he surrendered to authorities. His attorneys have disputed the allegations and said Ross maintains his innocence.

Attorney Bradley Horenstein said the allegations against Ross are false and asked the public not to reach a conclusion before the legal process is completed. Ross’ legal team also entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.

Ross surrenders to police

Ross voluntarily surrendered to Miami Beach police on Thursday morning rather than being arrested at his residence, according to authorities and the arrest affidavit.

He was then transported and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 6:10 a.m.

The arrest brought the prominent Miami-area rapper into a criminal proceeding involving two separate battery charges: felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery.

Bond amount reported differently

There is an inconsistency in publicly reported bond figures that is important to note.

Several reports citing Miami-Dade jail or court records state that the battery-by-strangulation charge carried a $5,000 bond, while the misdemeanor battery charge carried a $1,000 bond, producing a $6,000 total. NBC Miami and other outlets have reported the combined figure this way.

CBS News Miami, however, reported that Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer set bond at $4,000 on the battery-by-strangulation charge and $1,000 on the misdemeanor battery charge, for a $5,000 total, during Thursday’s bond hearing. The Washington Post likewise reported a $5,000 bail amount.

Because the published accounts conflict, the safest description is that jail records were reported as listing $5,000 and $1,000 bonds, totaling $6,000, while court reporting from CBS News Miami put the total set at the hearing at $5,000.

Court imposes stay-away conditions

During the bond hearing, Judge Glazer also imposed conditions concerning the alleged victim.

CBS News Miami reported that Ross was ordered to have no direct or indirect contact with the woman, including through third parties, social media or electronic communications. He was also ordered to stay away from locations associated with her.

The court additionally ordered Ross to surrender firearms and prohibited him from possessing firearms while the case is pending, according to CBS News Miami.

Ross subsequently was released after the court proceedings, according to multiple reports.

Arraignment scheduled for October 22

Ross’ next major court proceeding is scheduled for October 22, 2026, when he is expected to appear for arraignment.

His defense has maintained that he is innocent and has asked that the case be allowed to proceed through the court system before conclusions are reached about the allegations.

The allegations contained in the arrest affidavit are accusations and have not been established as facts at trial. Ross has pleaded not guilty.

The case remains pending in Miami-Dade County.
