21-year-old Nomchebo Zuma was chosen as the royal fiancee of King Mswati after she appeared at the annual umhlanga reed dance, a traditional ceremony where hundreds of women and girls dance for the king to show their beauty and piety.
Nomchebo Zuma was reportedly engaged to the 56-year-old monarch during the ceremony, which is believed to be the culmination of the selection process for his 16th official wife.
King Mswati, who ascended to the throne at the age of 18, has ruled Eswatini, Africa’s only absolute monarchy, since 1986.
