In the state of Tigray in Ethiopia, the incidence of malaria has increased by 60%.

In 20 districts there is a significant spread of malaria, and in ten of them the situation has reached epidemic levels.

The surge has been attributed to cuts in vector control efforts, shortages of medicines and disruptions in health services caused by the two-year war in Tigray.
