๐ฌ “It’s impressive”: Russian cosmonaut struck by beauty of Africa from space
Discovering the incredible beauty of the African continent was a pleasant surprise, Dmitri Petelin told Sputnik. The cosmonaut spent 12 months aboard the International Space Station (ISS) instead of the usual six months and took numerous snapshots of our planet.
๐ Among the places that caught his eye, many were in the desert areas of North Africa. It was the multitude of colors that was captivating, he explains.
๐โYou might wonder what’s so unusual about the desert. But seen from space, it goes from white to yellow to brick red, its landscape changes, the sand dunes take on various shapes”, describes Dmitry Petelin with emotion.
๐ณ Moreover, the south and center of the African continent also captured the cosmonaut’s eye with their countless green spaces and bodies of water.
“We are used to thinking of Africa as more of a desert continent, but in the area of the equator and below, you can tell it is a real jungle: greenery as far as the eye can see,” he detailed.
Dmitry Petelin also touched on other topics, including cosmonaut preparation and international collaboration in space.
