Liberian Govt Seeks Weah’s Help In Bid For UN Seat

Liberian Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow has requested the assistance of former president George M. Weah in the government’s bid to secure a non-permanent member seat at the UN Security Council.

In a formal communication, the minister cited the former president’s “global presence as a peace ambassador,” and the foundation laid by his administration on the issue as “crucial to the campaign”.

The campaign is also expected to feature support from other prominent Liberians, including former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee. It is unclear how the former president Weah might respond given recent worsening of relations between his supporters and the government.
