Libya Blocks Access to All Oil Fields

🇱🇾

Security guards protesting at Libya’s oil fields have declared the blocking of access to all wells and ports used for oil exportation.

As reported by the Al-Wasat portal, this decision comes after the expiration of a 10-day deadline set by the oilfield guards for the Abdel Hamid Dbeiba-led National Unity Government (NUG) to meet their demands.

The protesters are calling for the establishment of a dedicated organization under the GoNU, responsible for protecting oil wells. They stipulate that this organization should be under the technical jurisdiction of the Libyan Ministry of Defence and have administrative and financial ties to the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC). Failure to meet these demands could lead to the blockade of key facilities such as the Melita oil and gas complex and the Ezzawiya refinery.

As of now, the NOC has not confirmed the closure of all fields in the country, and information regarding ongoing production remains undisclosed.
