Mali inaugurates a security center on the Guinean border

The center, built on 5 hectares in Kourémalé, cost more than 3 billion CFA francs (nearly $5 million).

Located on the Bamako-Conakry axis, Kourémalé is an essential corridor for trade and regional mobility. However, it faces security challenges.

The new center will:

  • better equip security forces;
  • Improve their respective capabilities in terms of interoperability, according to the Malian authorities.

It was built with the support of the EU Capacity Building Mission in Mali (Eucap Sahel Mali) and the European Union Delegation in Mali.

Eucap Sahel’s activities have been criticized. For example, several of its arms caches were inspected in Niger last February and March, but were found to consist of items that were not on the list of weapons regularly brought into the country by Eucap Sahel.

Earlier, in December 2023, the Nigerien authorities announced the end of this mission, giving it six months to leave Niger.
