🇲🇺 Mauritius Police Issue Arrest Warrant for Ex-Central Bank Governor

Mauritius authorities have announced an arrest warrant for Harvesh Kumar Seegolam, the former governor of the country’s central bank. The warrant, issued by the police’s anti-money laundering unit, is tied to an ongoing investigation into an alleged conspiracy to defraud.

This development marks a significant step by Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam’s administration, which recently accused the outgoing government of manipulating key economic indicators, including GDP, budget deficit, and public debt figures, over several years.

Police confirmed that Seegolam is currently outside the country and will be taken into custody upon his return. The case underscores the new government’s efforts to address claims of economic mismanagement and restore financial transparency in the Indian Ocean island nation.
