🇳🇬 Oil Spill Reported at Shell Terminal in Nigeria’s Delta Region

A significant oil spill has been reported at Shell’s Bonny loading terminal in Nigeria’s Delta region following a pipeline rupture, according to the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, has caused oil to spread to the shoreline, raising concerns about environmental and community impact. NIMASA confirmed that it is closely monitoring the situation and working in collaboration with Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and other stakeholders to evaluate the extent of the spill and determine the necessary response measures.

The Bonny terminal, a critical hub in Nigeria’s oil export infrastructure, is located in the Niger Delta, a region historically plagued by oil spills and their devastating effects on the environment and livelihoods of local communities.

While authorities and stakeholders continue their assessment, the spill underscores ongoing challenges in managing oil infrastructure in the region. Environmental groups and community leaders are calling for swift action to contain the spill and mitigate its impact.

Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
