Moussa Condé: The Strategist Behind Doumbouya’s Regime and Alpha Condé’s Shadow in Guinea

Dans un décret lu à la télévision nationale, le Général Mamadi Doumbouya a nommé Moussa Condé, comme nouveau directeur de la Communication et de l’Information (DCI) de la présidence de la République.

Guinea’s political scene remains turbulent following the 2021 coup that ousted Alpha Condé, with current leader Mamady Doumbouya now relying on new figures like Moussa Condé to manage the narrative around the military-led transition. Moussa Condé, reportedly close to Alpha Condé, plays a strategic role in reshaping public perception as Doumbouya’s spin doctor, smoothing over tensions with various political factions and justifying the junta’s extended stay in power.

Doumbouya, initially seen as a reformist, is now criticized for delaying democratic elections and suppressing dissent. Behind the scenes, key political actors—some aligned with the ousted Alpha Condé—continue to influence Guinea’s fragile political landscape. Civil society organizations and opposition groups have been sidelined, while economic reforms and preparations for elections remain stalled. This political chessboard reflects both old alliances and new power dynamics, hinting at a deeper struggle for control within Guinea’s leadership.

The junta’s grip tightens even as opposition groups demand a return to civilian rule, raising questions about whether Guinea’s democratic transition will truly materialize in the near future.
