
Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, has declared that Nigeria will cease issuing mining licenses unless applicants provide approved plans for local value addition. This directive encompasses resources such as lithium and particularly gold, emphasizing the necessity for processing within Nigeria to generate “greater value and benefit to local communities”. Additionally, Alake highlighted the importance of oil refining, citing its multiplier effect on the economy.
Furthermore, the minister unveiled plans for the establishment of new units within the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps dedicated to safeguarding the nation’s natural resources.
