EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The country of Cape Verde is celebrating their Independence Day today.
July 5, 1975 is when the country officially gained independence from the country of Portugal.
Providence will be celebrating the annual Cape Verdean Independence Day Festival on Sunday, July 7 at Roger Williams Park.
The festival goes from noon to dusk and features traditional music, dance and food, along with a cultural, health/wellness and educational tents.
There will also be arts and crafts from local artists including various activities for children.
