ECOWAS appoints veteran diplomat to mediate with Sahel States
ECOWAS has appointed Lansana KouyatΓ©, a former Guinean prime minister and ex-ECOWAS executive secretary, to mediate with Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso, which withdrew from the bloc in January 2025 to form their own Sahel States alliance.
