UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay has announced the designation of Rabat, Morocco, as the capital of World Book Day 2026. The year of celebrations will begin on April 23, World Book and Copyright Day.
“Rabat is a cultural crossroads where books help transmit knowledge and art in all their diversity. The growing local book industry also plays an important role in the development of education. These actions are in line with UNESCO’s mandate,” Azoulay said.
