The attack involved gunfire directed at two U.S. embassy armored vehicles, though fortunately, no injuries to personnel were reported. The gangs involved, including the notorious “Mawozo 400” and “Chen Mechan” factions, are among the many armed groups that have gained control over significant parts of the capital and surrounding areas .
In response to these attacks, the U.S. Embassy has issued heightened security alerts, restricting personnel movement and canceling routine consular services. Additionally, a recent incident saw a United Nations helicopter, associated with humanitarian missions, come under fire while carrying World Food Programme staff near a gang-controlled neighborhood. This situation complicates essential operations, with limited travel options and safety concerns for both local residents and international personnel.
