Abdelmadjid Abderahim, the public health minister, has appealed to international partners for help amid the humanitarian crisis impacting over two million of the 18 million population.
Abderahim said flooding, an influx of refugees, increasing numbers of displaced persons, and armed conflicts between communities are inflicting suffering on civilians that Chad’s government cannot handle alone. He described the crisis as unprecedented, citing insufficient agricultural production due to climate change, droughts, and infestations by migratory birds and crickets.
The country also hosts over 600,000 refugees from conflict-torn Sudan, further straining resources.
