Chinese bus manufacturer Yutong eyes Tanzania assembly plant amidst growing market presence

The decision, announced by Kellen Zou, CEO of Yutong Bus Tanzania, during the inauguration of Yutong’s new offices and service center in Tanzania, is driven by the company’s positive market performance in the African country, according to local media.

Zou highlighted the rapid growth of the Tanzanian and East African markets, which he described as promising opportunities for Yutong’s expansion.“We have been in the country for three years, when we first launched our services… we are now analyzing the market to determine whether we can start assembling our vehicles,” he said.

The new service center, he explained, is intended to address the challenges previously faced by bus owners who had to rely on local mechanics or travel abroad for repairs.

“The center will not only provide critical services but also offer training for local drivers, creating a mutually beneficial situation and transforming the industry,” he said, adding that Tanzania is a key market in the East African Community (EAC) and shows great potential for continued growth.

The move has been welcomed by the Tanzania Bus Owners Association, with Chairman Issah Nkya praising the service center’s role in resolving previous maintenance issues.

“Bus owners are now assured of quality maintenance of their vehicles here in the country,” Nkya said.
