Authorities in Wilmington, Delaware, have accused a former Citizens Bank teller of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from customer accounts.
The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Vannia Chatt, allegedly exploited her position at the branch located on the 900 block of N. Market Street. According to police, Chatt targeted three dormant accounts, creating emergency debit cards and generating PIN numbers to access the funds.
Dormant accounts, which typically see little to no activity, are often vulnerable to fraudulent activity due to their inactivity. This case highlights the importance of regular account monitoring and robust internal controls within financial institutions.
Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are urging financial institutions and customers alike to remain vigilant in safeguarding their accounts.
