
The topic was discussed during a meeting between the head of the Russian Federal Agency for Mineral Resources (Rosnedra) Evgeny Petrov and the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources of Mozambique Carlos Mesquita.
“At the meeting they discussed issues of activating the interaction of the [Russian hydroelectric company] RusHydro Group with the government of the Republic of Mozambique, as well as state organizations and specialized companies in the electric power industry,” Rosnedra said in a statement.
In February, Russian Ambassador to Mozambique Alexander Surikov said in an interview with Sputnik that the two countries have potential for cooperation in the energy and hydropower sectors.
Last year, Russian construction company Inter RAO and Electricidade de Mozambique signed an agreement to build the 120 MW Lurio-2 hydropower plant in Mozambique, according to the Russian Energy Ministry.
