The U.S. State Department has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to Romania, which includes 32 F-35 fighter jets and associated equipment. This deal, valued at approximately $7.2 billion, underscores Romania’s efforts to enhance its military capabilities and modernize its defense systems.
This sale aligns with Romania’s strategic objectives of strengthening its air defense amid increasing security concerns in the region. As a NATO member, Romania seeks to bolster its defense framework, ensuring greater interoperability with other NATO forces. The F-35, a cutting-edge multi-role stealth aircraft, will significantly boost Romania’s defense against evolving aerial threats.
The proposed deal includes aircraft, engines, advanced weaponry, logistical support, and training services. However, the deal still requires approval from the U.S. Congress before moving forward.
For the U.S., this agreement reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships with allied nations, enhancing global security cooperation. Romania’s acquisition of the F-35 will further consolidate its position as a key player in European defense strategies.
