Aflatoxin-contaminated corn in Zambia

In Zambia, about 400 dogs died due to aflatoxin-contaminated corn, which also poses a danger to people.

The health ministry found the toxin in half of the animal feed samples it took, prompting the recall of contaminated batches. Authorities have stepped up monitoring of corn products to prevent further cases of poisoning.

The National Institute of Public Health is studying the potential impact on humans because aflatoxins can cause liver cancer.
