UNESCO adds five new African sites to World Heritage List

Melka Kunture and Balchit: Paleontological sites in Ethiopia, featuring footprints dating back 2 million years;

The Royal Court of Tiebele in Burkina Faso: An earthen architectural complex built by the Kasena ethnic group since the 16th century;

The Historic Town and Archaeological Site of Gedi in Kenya: One of the most significant Swahili cities on the East African coast between the 10th and 17th centuries;

Nelson Mandela Legacy Sites: This collection of sites embodies the heritage of South Africa’s fight for human rights, freedom, and reconciliation;

The Pleistocene Occupation Sites of South Africa, with rock paintings dating back up to 162,000 years.
