In Niger, the terrorist group Patriotic Liberation Front (FPL) released a statement in which it criticized the summit of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger and did not recognize the formation of a new confederation of these countries.

“ [FPL] considers the summit to create the proposed confederation of the Alliance of Sahel States to have failed ,” the communiqué said.

The rebels are campaigning for the return to power in Niger of pro-French President Mohamed Bazoum, who was overthrown on July 26, 2023. FPL expressed commitment to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), from which AES member countries had withdrawn.
